Founded in 1994, Pacific Dental Services (PDS®) originated the Private Practice+® model to enable dentists to focus on their passion: serving patients. PDS also pioneered the concept of Modern Dentistry so that dentists are equipped to combine advances in the latest technology with the best operational practices and procedures, highly skilled support staff and a commitment to ongoing training and education. Now, the dental support organization is expanding into a new market, providing oral healthcare to the underserved with the Baltimore Orioles, and breaking records with their modern technology.

PDS has just opened its first supported dental practice in Ohio, providing access to comprehensive oral health care to residents in Cincinnati. The new PDS-supported dental office, Dentists of Westwood, is led by owner dentists Bach Nguyen, D.D.S., and Bindu Kansagra, D.D.S. Home to over 300,000 residents, Cincinnati has one of the quickest growing economies in the Midwest and is home to several Fortune 500 companies, as well as three major league sports teams. It is known as a city where residents thrive in the cultural and economic landscape. The new practice provides a patient-centric approach, offering a wide range of specialty services under one roof, such as endodontics, oral & maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, hygiene, and pediatric dentistry.
“Expanding access to care for patients in the state of Ohio is an incredible milestone. We’re excited that there is such a strong demand for our services in Ohio. Already, we have plans to help dentists to open three more offices in the greater Cincinnati area in the coming months. Although PDS’ network of supported dental practices has expanded to 21 states throughout the U.S., our organization remains uniquely local. Within their neighborhood practices, each owner dentist remains focused on providing comprehensive oral health care, one patient at a time.” – Stephen E. Thorne, IV, Founder & CEO, PDS
The primary purpose of Pacific Dental Services is to help dentists create Healthier, Happier Patients®. PDS-supported practices are committed to bringing awareness to patients about the link between oral health and whole-body health – what PDS and its supported practices call the Mouth-Body Connection®. “I’m pleased that the opening of Dentists of Westwood will allow us to provide comprehensive oral health care to patients in Cincinnati,” said Dr. Nguyen. “Our new dental practice will provide patients customized treatment plans using the latest dental technology, as well as multi-specialty services. We look forward to serving the people of Cincinnati and providing the Perfect Patient Experience® for adult and pediatric patients.”

PDS Teams Up with the Baltimore Orioles

Kyle Guerin, PDS

PDS is partnering with Team Smile for the launch of a new program in Maryland with Major League Baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles. On Friday, May 17, PDS sponsored a key community event that provided donated dentistry to many children in need in Baltimore. The event with Team Smile, the nation’s premier advocacy group that partners oral health organizations with professional athletic organizations to provide high-quality dental care to underserved children, marks its first alliance with the Baltimore Orioles.
“We have created a culture of service at PDS that’s part of the fabric of who we are. How we serve our team members, our families and, ultimately, our communities, only strengthens how PDS-supported dental practices serve their patients.” – Kyle Guerin, Director, PDS Foundation & Corporate Responsibility
Over the years, in partnership with the Pacific Dental Services Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to providing oral health care to those in need locally, nationally, and internationally, PDS-supported clinicians and volunteers have provided more than $56 million in donated dentistry to underserved patients. The mission of Team Smile is to facilitate partnerships between dental organizations and professional sports teams, with the goal of providing dental care and dental education to children who otherwise would not have access to it. Team Smile believes education is key in making children aware of how important dental care is to their overall health both now and into their future.

PDS Hits Significant New Milestone in Dentistry

Stephen E. Thorne, IV

PDS’ supported dental practices have just completed two million CEREC CAD/CAM same-day crowns, a monumental achievement in modern dentistry. First introduced in the mid-1980s, CAD/CAM technology has grown in popularity in the dental industry. Nevertheless, less than 10% of dentists in the United States currently offer their patients a chairside, same-day crown solution. For Pacific Dental Services-supported practices, however, providing CEREC CAD/CAM same-day dentistry is a cornerstone of the comprehensive care they provide patients every day. PDS-supported dental practices offer patients modern dentistry with proven technology with the use of Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) computer-aided design (CAD) and onsite computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) dentistry. CEREC CAD/CAM is less invasive, and it allows dentists to provide permanent, natural-looking crowns for their patients in less than two hours. With this convenient technology, patients are able to reduce the time they’re in the dental practice and away from family and work.
“Same-day CEREC CAD/CAM technology is a huge differentiator for our supported practices, setting them apart from other providers. We’ve made significant investments to enhance the tools and resources for our supported practices, to empower them to provide the Perfect Patient Experience®.” – Stephen E. Thorne IV, Founder & CEO, PDS
In addition to CEREC CAD/CAM same-day dentistry, PDS-supported practices are also able to offer to patients Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), digital X-rays, laser, online scheduling, and the VELscope® Enhanced Oral Assessment System, among other technologies at the forefront of oral and whole-body health care. Since the beginning, PDS has been committed to fostering a culture of Clinicians Leading Clinicians in Clinical Excellence®. PDS is one of the fastest-growing private companies in America. In fact, Inc. Magazine placed PDS on the prestigious Inc. 5,000 list a remarkable 13 times, and also named the company among the “Top Ten Heroes of the American Economy” in recognition of PDS’ ranking as one of the top job creators in the healthcare industry.
